Freserganj Wind Farm Project, at Freserganj, South 24 Parganas

The power generated from the Freserganj Wind Farm Project having installed capacity 2 MW is purchased by WBSECL through PPA. A brief write up on the Freserganj Wind Farm Project is illustrated below:

West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency is operating a Wind Farm Project at Freserganj, South 24 Parganas since 2001. Initially, the project started with 4 X 250 kW Wind Electric Generators in 1st phase and subsequently the capacity of the project was augmented in 2nd phase by introducing another four Wind Electric Generators of same capacity in 2006.

The Wind Farm is the only utility scale wind power project set up under technology demonstration scheme of MNRE, Government of India.

WBREDA signed PPA with WBSEDCL for both phases of the Projects. Gradually, WBSEDCL has increased the tariff as follows:

2001 1st Phase Rs. 1.40 (w.e.f. July, 2001)
2005 1st Phase Rs. 2.25 (w.e.f. April 2005)
2006 1st Phase Rs. 2.50 (w.e.f. May, 2006)
2006 2nd Phase Rs. 2.50 (w.e.f. May 2006)
2008 2nd Phase Rs. 4.00 (w.e.f. March 2008)

Grid connected Rooftop Solar Photo Voltaic Projects in Schools:

The school project includes installation of GRTSPV System at Government Aided / Sponsored Schools in the state with an objective to give respite to the school authorities from the burden of expenditure on electricity and to increase the quantum of clean energy in the available energy mix.

So far 240 numbers of schools have been served with a cumulative capacity 2.4 MWp in two phases. Based on the success of the school programme, 1000 schools have been taken up to provide Grid Connected Rooftop Solar PV Systems each of capacity 10 kWp and the project is nearing completion.

During FY 2019-20 a target has been set to take up another 900 schools and 100 colleges for installation GRTSPV System each of capacity 10 kWp and 20 kWp respectively.

Solar Water Heating System for Government Hostels

A project has been conceived to install ETC based Solar Water Heating Systems of cumulative capacity 31500 LPD at 82 Hostels and Homes under Backward Classes Welfare Department.

Department of Power and Non-conventional Energy Sources, Government of west Bengal has funded the project.
WBREDA is the implementing the project through vendors deployed through e-tendering process.

The project comprises of 67 numbers and 22 numbers of Solar Water Heating System each of unit capacity 300 LPD and 500 LPD respectively.

Major components of each of the ETC based Solar Water Heating Systems:
a)ETC based Collector
b)Hot water tank
c)Makeup tank for cold water supply
d)Structure
e)CPVC pipe cold water supply and valve
f)CPVC pipe hot water supply and valve

Solar Projets

10 MW Solar Project at Bhajanghat

WBREDA has taken up the Ground Mounted Solar PV Power Project of capacity 10 MW at Bhajanghat under Krishnaganj Block, Nadia. The project cost arrived at is Rs. 50.70 Cr. The power generated from the project will be evacuated to the nearest 33/11 kV Substation at Krishnaganj through 33 kV line of route length of about 11 km.

The order for execution of work has already been placed in November, 2018. The vendor has already moved at the site and initiated preliminary activities like survey and demarcation of land. Total project completion time has been considered to be 12 months.

1 MW Solar Project at Ganga Sagar

WBREDA has conceived a project proposal for installation of Ground Mounted Solar PV Power Project of capacity 1 MW at Ganga Sagar, South 24 Parganas. The project cost arrived at is Rs. 5.62 Cr.

The order for implementation of the project has already been placed in November, 2018. Total project completion time has been considered to be six months.

Skill Development

Renewable Energy Technology is new and an emerging technology. The use of renewable energy is increasing rapidly in the state. The installation bases of such projects have increased many folds. There will be a huge requirement of trained man power for installation and maintenance of such projects in near future. Considering this aspect, WBREDA has taken skill development programme with MNRE, Government of India to increase the trained man power in the field of renewable energy. In the year 2017-18, WBREDA has facilitated to conduct twenty nos. skill development training programs through 17 institutions and 604 persons have been trained.
During FY-2018-19, similar training programme has already been allotted to 34 institutions with a target to develop 1020 skilled manpower in the state
